The Junior League of Stark County, OH, Inc. is excited to announce the 2023-2024 Women of the Year Honorees: Maria Heege, Community Award recipient, Lynne Esguerra, President’s Award recipient, and Ann McCabe, Legacy Award recipient.

Maria Heege will receive the Community Award for making “significant, unique, and lasting volunteer contributions in many parts of Greater Stark County.” She was nominated by Linda Dehoff who stated, “Her ability to analyze needs and develop solutions while inspiring others to join in is unprecedented. Unquestionably, she is a true leader, humble, always recognizing others and not herself. Her effectiveness to identify a need and rally a team of dedicated volunteers to serve those needs is her mode of operation.” She has served the community for over 40 years on literally dozens of nonprofit boards, committees and mentorships.

Lynne Esguerra will receive the President’s Award for making “significant, unique, and lasting volunteer contributions in one area of the Greater Stark County community.” Aultman Women’s Board nominated Lynne, noting that she embodies the very essence of dedication, commitment, and selflessness in her service to The Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital. Her journey with the organization began in 1987, and over the decades, she has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their mission and values. Her efforts, leadership, and incredible ability to rally support contributed to raising $415,000 to support a $2.8 million pledge to the Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Ann McCabe will receive the Legacy Award, presented posthumously, who made “significant, unique and lasting volunteer contributions in many parts of the greater Stark County community”. She was nominated by Stacy Dulik who stated, “She assumed numerous leadership positions, but she also diligently worked behind the scenes, serving as a vital pillar of our organization’s achievements, showcasing a steadfast dedication to the essence of community service. …what truly set her apart was her unwavering professionalism, punctuality, and preparation. She had a fearless spirit, never afraid to reach for the stars, consistently demonstrating a willingness to try something different and share her innovative ideas…she maintained a joyful spirit, never losing her sense of humor.” She was involved in many nonprofit organizations throughout Stark County and “her memory will continue to inspire and remind us of the incredible impact one person can have when driven by a sincere dedication to the betterment of others.”

The 76th Annual Women of the Year event, honoring these outstanding volunteers, will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024, 10:00am, at Brookside Country Club.  The cost of the event, including jewelry modeling, displays of recipients’ awards and memorabilia, and brunch will be $45.  Tickets are available online here.
