The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a social media awareness and fundraising campaign employed by many Junior Leagues around the world.  The Junior League of Stark County (JLSC) is participating in this initiative for the second time from April 4-9th, 2022.  Participants will wear a black dress or black outfit (as they are able) for six consecutive days (Mon – Sat) as a visible symbol of participation and to start conversation and raise awareness about food insecurity in Stark County.  Participants will also solicit funds or supplies for projects aligned with our impact area: food insecurity.  With over 14% of the Stark County population living with food insecurity, it is critical that we strive to serve those in need.
Additionally, gently used purses will be collected during the wine tasting and tea event which will be filled with personal care items and donated to organizations in Stark County serving women in need.

How you can get involved this year:

  • Make a donation to go towards JLSC projects impacting food security or women in need in Stark County
  • Shop for items from our Amazon Wishlist to go towards our upcoming projects
  • Attend a wine tasting event at The Barrel Room in North Canton at 6:30pm on Wed, April 6th. This is open to members and non members! Join us for a fun night to taste 4 different wines and learn more about JLSC and food insecurity in Stark County. We ask attendees to bring a new or gently used purse that will be donated to organizations serving women in need or bring non perishable food items for the new member Blessing Box project.
    • $15 to participate in wine tasting, paid in advance via square
    • Sign up for the wine tasting event HERE to let us know if you will participate in wine tasting or attend without the tasting.
  • Attend the LBDI Tea at the Canton Woman’s Club on Sat, April 9th from 9-11am.  $5 fee to RSVP to attend. We ask attendees to bring a new or gently used purse that will be donated to organizations serving women in need or bring non perishable food items for the new member Blessing Box project. Thank you to all of our League members that participated in the Dec 2020 LBDI event and to everyone that made donations to JLSC or purchased items from our Amazon wishlist to provide meal kits and safety bags for a project with Pregnancy Choices!

Last year we were able to raise over $4,000 and received items purchased from our Amazon Wishlist that went towards a virtual 4 week Kids in the Kitchen program, food distribution services, and meal kids and safety bags for 30 clients at Pregnancy Choices.
